*Individual student schedules may differ

It is expected that students enrolled in an AP class will take the AP exam in that course.  Therefore, students who do not take the AP Exam in their AP course will have the AP designation and weighted grade removed from their transcript.  For example, AP English Literature (11th grade) students who do not take the AP Literature and Composition Exam will have the title of the course on their transcript changed to English 11.

  1. HSMSE is opting to administer many of the AP Exams during the late testing schedule. However, due to scheduling conflicts with other AP exams, AP Environmental Science, AP German Language & Culture, and AP Physics C: Mechanics will be administered during the regular testing schedule.
  2.  Some students will need to take an exam in the morning and another exam in the afternoon. These students will need to bring a small lunch and eat it after the morning exam ends and before the afternoon exam begins.  Also, a few students may have a testing conflict where two or more exams are scheduled for the same day and time.
  3. Only students who have been approved to receive accommodations (i.e. extended time) by the College Board will receive these accommodations for AP exams. For questions, please contact either Mr. Klein or Ms. Patterson.

 Exam Fees & Fee Reductions

The cost of each regularly priced exam: $94

The cost of each reduced price exam: $14

Based on New York State and College Board regulations, only those students who have approved to receive free or reduced priced lunch may pay the reduced rate of $14 per exam.  Additionally, those students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch, will also receive fee waivers for SAT exams, SAT Subject tests, ACT exams, and college applications.

You may still apply for a free or reduced price lunch to receive the reduced fee for AP Exams and the fee waivers for College Board exams! To apply, please visit either of these websites: www.ApplyForLunch.com or www.nyc.gov/accessnyc.   Paper applications are no longer valid.   For next year, please apply for free and reduced price lunch in September 2018!

We realize that taking AP exams is expensive, but they are a very important component of the college admissions process.    It is usually a cost effective means of earning college credit because attaining a “passing” grade on the AP exams enables students to get college credit that is worth thousands of dollars.   If you have any questions regarding the fee reduced status, please contact:

Ms. I. Ortiz, Guidance Department Assistant, iortiz@hsmse.org    212-281-6490 ext. 5200

Mr. Wade Klein, School Counselor, wklein@hsmse.org     212-281-6490

We will be able to accept electronic payments via the HSMSE Webstore!

The processing fee for the regularly priced exam ($94) will be $5.77 per exam.

The processing fee for an approved reduced price exam ($14) will be $1.30 per exam.

Please print out your receipt and submit it to the Guidance Secretary Ms. Ortiz or Mr. Klein

You may also pay the AP exam fees with a Money Order or Cashier’s Check.   HSMSE is not permitted to accept personal checks or cash.  Please address all Money Orders or Cashier’s Checks to “HSMSE” and please write down the student’s names and the name of the exams the student is taking.
