School Leadership Team

The HSMSE School Leadership Team (SLT) plays an important role in school-based decision making and encourages collaboration between the administration, students and families.

All New York City public schools are required to have a School Leadership Team as stated in New York State Education Law Section 2590-h. The SLT evaluates the school’s educational programs, helps develop school-based educational policies, and helps to make schools more collaborative.

The SLT includes three required members from the school community:

  • Principal
  • Parent-Teacher Association President
  • United Federation of Teachers Chapter Leader

Other members are elected parents, staff members and students. The SLT must have an equal number of parents and staff.

The HSMSE SLT meets every month from 4:30 - 6pm, usually during the third week of each month. Visit the school calendar for specific dates.

All members of the HSMSE community are welcome to attend the public portion of the SLT meeting. Non-SLT members are encouraged to bring issues of school-wide concern to their SLT student/parent/faculty representative(s) prior to a meeting so the issue can be added to the agenda. Non-SLT members may request speaking time to address the SLT about a matter of school-wide concern during a designated portion of the monthly meeting. All requests must be submitted in writing to the SLT chairperson one week before the scheduled monthly meeting.
