HSMSE Graduation Requirements
All HSMSE students must meet New York State graduation requirements, but we require additional credits to earn an HSMSE endorsement in either math, science or engineering. We also encourage students to work toward one of New York State's Advanced Regents degrees (see below).
NEW YORK STATE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
- English: 8 credits
- Social Studies: 8 credits
- Math: 6 credits (at least 2 in geometry, algebra II or higher)
- Science: 6 credits (2 life science, 2 physical science, 2 other)
- World Languages: 2 credits
- Physical education: 4 credits
- Art, music, dance or theater: 2 credits
- Health: 1 credit
- Electives: 7 credits
HSMSE ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Engineering Concentration
- Advanced Regents Diploma (see below)
- Math: 10 credits
- Science: 8 credits
- Engineering: 10 credits
- 100 hours of community service
Science Concentration
- Advanced Regents Diploma (see below)
- Math: 10 credits
- Science: 8 credits
- Mt. Sinai: 4 credits
- 100 hours of community service
Math Concentration
- Advanced Regents Diploma (see below)
- Math: 12 credits
- Science: 8 credits
- Engineering: 8 credits
- 100 hours of community service
NEW YORK STATE REGENTS DIPLOMAS
Regents Diploma
Score of 65 or better on six Regents exams:
- English
- Math (any)
- Global History
- US history
- Science (any)
- World Languages
Regents Diploma with Honors: Average score of 90+ on these six exams
Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation
Score of 65 or better on nine Regents exams:
- English
- Integrated Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II / Trigonometry
- Global History
- US History
- Living Environment / Biology and physical science
- World Languages
Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors: Average score of 90+ on these nine exams
Mastery in Math
Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and a minimum of 85 on each of three math exams:
- Algebra I
- Geometry
- Algebra II / Trigonometry
Master in Science
Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and a minimum of 85 on three science exams:
- Chemistry
- Earth Science
- Living Environment / Biology
- Physics
