The Parent Teacher Association of HSMSE engages parents in their children's education and raises funds to support the school's College Office, sports teams, extracurricular activities, enrichment opportunities, and curriculum development for our students and faculty. PTA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
Meetings are held monthly on Thursdays from 6:30 - 8pm, either in person or on Zoom (not hybrid). Please refer to the calendar for the schedule.
PTA general membership meetings are open to all parents and guardians and include updates from our principal or assistant principals and the PTA executive board. Most meetings also include a guest speaker or presentation and discussion to help parents engage with their children's education and prepare for college.
PTA BUDGET
Each spring, the PTA Executive Board reviews the expenses of the previous school year, to determine anticipated expenses for the upcoming school year. Once approved by the Executive Board, the budget is presented to the General Membership at the last PTA meeting of the school year for approval. Approval of the budget means our parent body has committed to raising the funds, whether by personal donations or fundraising initiatives.
At the May 2026 meeting, the General Membership of the HSMSE PTA approved a $444,000 operating budget for the 2026-27 academic year.
PTA EVENTS
Community Events
Throughout the school year, the PTA organizes events to bring together the HSMSE community, including parent/guardian meetups in all boroughs, ice skating and other family get-togethers, and our annual Cuisine on the Quad potluck.
Fundraising Events
The PTA encourages family giving throughout the year to fund programs that are not covered by the DOE. Campaigns include a Thanksgiving drive for teacher appreciation and a Pi Day challenge, and our annual auction and fundraising party in the spring. If you'd like to volunteer to help with these and other events, fill out our volunteer form.
