Clubs and Activities

Extracurricular activities are a vital part of the school program and social life for most students, and many HSMSE students would agree that they learn as much outside of the classroom as they do inside. Our scope of offerings is based on students interest. In each activity, students bear substantial responsibility for leadership.

Clubs start in the fall, and new students are encouraged to attend the club fair that will be held in late September or early October. There, you’ll be able to meet club leaders and sign up to join any club that interests you.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT & LEADERSHIP

Class Co-Presidents
Each grade has two co-presidents. Candidates run as a team, the elections for Sophomore, Junior, Senior are held in the spring for the following year. Freshmen elections are held a few months after school starts so that they can meet and get to know each other before deciding to run and who to vote for.

The School Leadership Team (SLT)
The SLT is made up of administrators, teachers, students, and parents. The two student representatives include a senior and a junior who is recommended by the graduating senior and approved by the principal. SLT meetings are held once per month to discuss issues important to the entire school community. The SLT serves as a regular forum for school-wide issues where everyone has an equal voice.

Leadership Class
Leadership is an elective class called “Student Government/Leadership.” Class co-presidents and SLT reps are highly encouraged to enroll in this class. The class is open to other students from Sophomore year up. Students focus on leadership skills and event planning to encourage school spirit and raise money. Topics include proposal writing, group communication, ethics, and methods of persuasion. Leadership skills are advanced, and the responsibilities for each grade’s activities are fulfilled by all the students in the Leadership class.
