The free SAT for juniors is administered on this date.
Parents should be mindful that you and your child should be planning on your own regarding when you want your child to sign up for the SAT and if the date is earlier than March, you should sign up and pay for those dates and locations as you see best for you and your child.
The city began administering a free SAT a few years ago because several families of juniors were not aware of the responsibility to sign up on your own volition and at times you see best for you and your child. It has been an amazing shift in policy now that we can say city wide all of our juniors have the opportunity at no cost to take this exam in the spring of the junior year.
That said, again, it is and always has been a best practice for parents and their children to decide when they and their child should take the SAT and if they believe a spring sat offering by the NYCPS is not sufficient as best for their child, additional testing times and dates are available on the college board website.
HSMSE BEST PRACTICE ADVICE - Sophomores should consider after taking the psat in the fall, when they will feel most prepared and ready with the content and rigor of the SAT. Students should try and take a practice SAT in late fall/early spring of the 10th grade year and begin discussing how many times and on which dates they feel are best to map out their SAT testing path. In most cases we find that students on average take the sat three times in total. Testing sooner than later is advantageous as it will inform the student and parent where the child scores in verbal and math, and then charting a plan for review, practice and/or retesting can take place.
